On the night of the 30th-31st March 1944 795 Lancaster and Halifax's of RAF bomber command set out on a raid to destroy the historic city of Nuremberg. The bombers had hardly penetrated enemy territory when they flew into a ambush and, in brilliant moonlight, were in involved in 250-mile long running battle.
